Why Scanner Selection Matters

Dirty lenses, Wi-Fi dead zones, and wrong scan ranges cause more warehouse downtime than software bugs. The scanner is the piece your operators hold all day. Getting it wrong means slow scans, cracked screens, and replacements every 18 months.

We work with clients running InventoryPro across single-site operations and multi-warehouse networks. The models listed here are what we recommend based on field performance, vendor support timelines, and total cost of ownership.

Device Spotlights

Zebra MC94 Series

Rugged keypad-equipped device built for heavy distribution center environments. 12-foot drop rating - highest in this class. The physical keypad works in cold storage and with gloved hands where touchscreens fail.

Honeywell CT47

Dual-lens FlexRange XLR engine (Full Range variant) handles near/far switching without a mode change - from 3 inches to over 40 feet. Good fit for operations that mix shelf picks with high-rack scanning.

Zebra TC53e

Hardware Secure Element chip for sensitive supply chain data. A solid mid-market option at a lower price than full enterprise devices. Support runs through 2032.

Honeywell CT37

Longest vendor support window on this list - through 2033. Strongest return on investment for small-to-mid operations that want to buy once and hold for years.

Zebra TC22

Lowest-cost entry point in the lineup for small business and retail. Still runs Android 13+ and scans reliably. A reasonable starting point for operations that do not need a heavy-duty chassis.

Datalogic Memor 35

Wireless charging eliminates charging pin failure - one of the most common hardware complaints in the field. Popular in healthcare and cleanroom environments where contact points collect debris.

Total Cost of Ownership

Enterprise scanners with 5-10 year support windows cost less long-term than consumer smartphones that need replacing every 2-3 years. A dedicated scanner lasting 7+ years has a lower annual cost than a consumer phone on a 2-year replacement cycle - before you count cases, repairs, and the labor to re-provision each device.

Factor in drop damage, battery degradation, and OS update support. Dedicated scanners are designed for warehouse conditions. Consumer phones are not. We help clients run these numbers during workflow audits so the purchasing decision is backed by actual cost data.

Works with InventoryPro Mobile

All scanners listed here are tested with InventoryPro Mobile. The mobile client runs on Android and handles receiving, issuing, cycle counts, transfers, and lookups. Scanner input routes directly into transaction fields - no extra configuration needed for supported devices.
